As you are aware, public school choice under ESSA refers to the option that a school system may provide to all students enrolled in a struggling school to transfer to a higher performing school. However, in LA, school systems with struggling schools are required to offer school choice, ACT 420 of the LA Legislature allows parents of students who are attending schools that have received a "D" or "F" school performance letter grade in the state's school and district accountability system to request a transfer to schools that have received a letter grade of "A", "B", or "C" provided there is a capacity at the school. We are happy to announce that your child's base school, Central Middle, is no longer a D school, This school year, Central Middle received a score of 60.5, which is a C. This means that your child(ren) are no longer eligible for a school choice transfer; however, if you would like your child to continue
attending the approved school for the 2025 - 2026 school year, you do have another option. Your child can remain at the approved school through an in-parish transfer. The applications for in-parish transfers will open mid- to late April, ln-parish transfers, however, do not have the option for district-provided transportation. Parents whose children are approved for an in-parish transfer are required to bring and pick-up their child(ren) every day.
